Maldives Weather
The weather in the Maldives is generally warm and sunny all year round. The region enjoys a tropical climate and temperature steady throughout most months of the year. The monsoon season is really what determines the temperature and any fluctuations in the climate. There are two monsoons in the year; the first is the Southwest monsoon which starts in May through to November and the second is the Northeast monsoon which takes place between the months of December until April.
Because the Maldives is based on the equator, it means that any severe storms are rare. The hottest month of the year on average is April with December being the coolest. The months between December to April tend to be quite dry with February the driest.
On average, you can expect between 7 to 8 hours of sunshine per day and temperatures between 25 to 30 degrees centigrade. Humidity can be quite high, at about 75% so be prepared.
If you enjoy surfing then the best time to take advantage of this is during the Southwest monsoon season. This occurs between April and October. If you really want to enjoy the swells then the best time of the year is between June and September where they can be anything from 3 to 8 feet. Although the Maldives is superb for surfing the ideal place within the region is the North and South Male Atoll which is more renowned and you can surf to your heart's content.
If diving is something you like then most resorts have their own dive centres. The Maldives has thousands of potential dive sites where you can explore the beautiful flora and fauna of this wonderful country. If you have your own diving gear then don’t forget to bring it along. Diving is conducted everyday all year round.
Overall, the weather forecast in the Maldives is great all year round, not too hot and not too cold. Whatever you plan on doing, whether this be enjoying your honeymoon, a holiday of a lifetime or whether you are intending on going diving and enjoying the flora and fauna, you can be guaranteed a trip of a lifetime in this paradise location. |
